Great value for money projector.
- Good image quality. Sharp image, good and vivid colors.
- Barely noticeable, very quiet operation.
- Acceptable rainbow effect. For me, it is not at a disturbing level.
- Fast, precise focus and keystone correction.
- Good gimbal mechanics.
However, there is room for improvement:
- Light leakage: The "light leakage" or "halo" effect typical of DLP projectors is present here as well, to the bottom left and the bottom (outside) of the projected image. This can be masked with a well-placed piece of black tape in front of the lens, but since this is a known technological characteristic of DLP, it should be solved at the factory (aesthetically).
- Stronger hardware or more optimized software. It is not always fast and responsive; sometimes it lags for up to 3-4 seconds.
- System updates: There has already been a system update, but it hasn't updated to Google TV 14 yet; it still only runs Google TV 11.
- File system support: Since it has 4K resolution, playing large media files should be a basic feature. While it is supported in terms of file formats, via USB only NTFS (this is good) and FAT32 (this is irrelevant for large files) file systems are supported. Why is there no exFAT support? ExFAT is one of the most common file systems when dealing with large files, especially for flash drives/external storage.
- I also miss the following buttons from the remote control:
- It would be important to have a dedicated button that directly opens the projector-level settings (especially since the system can slow down, making it cumbersome to navigate there). People usually set general Google TV settings once or rarely, but projection settings (brightness, color temperature, color mode, etc.) might need adjustment per movie or projection condition, so the user would navigate here quite often.
- It would be important to have a dedicated eye-protection/child-protection button that immediately turns on eye-protection mode or turns off the image or puts the projector to sleep (although sleep mode is achievable by long-pressing the power button, even if not immediately).
- Perhaps brightness control buttons, similar to volume control.
So, what I would ask from JMGO product support after this purchase:
Please provide a Google TV 14 update, system-level performance optimization, and add exFAT file system support via a software update.
It would be a huge plus if, regarding the remote control feedback, at least the projector-level settings could be accessed immediately, by long-pressing the settings button. This wouldn't require a physically new remote control; it could be solved via software retrospectively. If this reaches the relevant team and they solve it, that would be an extra positive point to JMGO.
